WPS Physicians Advisory Committee (PAC) Update: The ACR recommends to the state chapters to develop relationships with commercial insurance payers. The Wisconsin Physicians Service (WPS) is a major commercial payer and the Medicare administrator for the state of Wisconsin. The WPS Physicians Advisory Committee (PAC) is composed of both administrative and private practice physicians which develop and approve medical administrative guidelines for payment of insurance claims. WRS has the only private practice representative that regularly attends the quarterly meetings of the PAC. The PAC oversees around 100 medical guidelines of which at least 1/4 to 1/3rd govern payment of radiologic services. By engendering a long term, credible relationship with the committee members, your WRS representative has been able to fairly shape payment practices for radiologic services. Michael Braun, MD.
